Voodoo In New Orleans
Voodoo came to New Orleans with enslaved West Africans, The Africans combined their religious rituals and practices with those of the local catholic people. Voodoo Queens and Kings - are spiritual and political figures of power. Marie Laveau (1794-1881) Marie was well known for being the Voodoo Queen of New Orleans . She was 25 married to Jacques Paris, he was a carpenter. But ended when he disappeared, the marriage lasted one year. Marie married again to Christophe Dominique Glapion, and with this marriage they had 15 children. Marie Laveau was very skillful in Medicine and a dealer of hexes. She worked as a hair dresser and would listen to all the gossip that her clients would tell her, and this is how she would know everyone's secrets. She lived and died in the same houes she was born in. She died in June 1881. Marie Laveau is buried in St.Louis Cemetery, People who visit her tomb will leave an "X" in hopes of having a wish come true. Voodoo Today The practices of Voodoo is still around today. And New Orleans is one of the most famous spots for it. |
